LOCATION: Aliaga is approximately 40 miles N.N.W. of Izmir, on the Southern arm of the gulf of Candarli. Aliaga port is situated within following co-ordinates:
Lat. 38° 49' 46" N. , Long. 26° 53' 48" E.
Lat. 38° 50' 53" N. , Long. 26° 53' 00" E.
Lat. 38° 50' 54" N. , Long. 26° 58' 12" E.
Aliaga port is divided into the Inner and Outer Harbour. Their co-ordinates as follows;
Inner Harbour: Lat. 38° 50' 10" N. , Long. 26° 56' 40" E. , Lat. 38° 49' 53" N. , Long. 26° 57' 45" E.
Outer Harbour: Lat. 38° 50' 53" N. , Long. 26° 53' 00" E., Lat. 38° 50' 54" N. , Long. 26° 58' 12" E.

MAIN ACTIVITIES : In order to meet the country's petroleum products demand Procurement and processing of crude oil Export and import of all kinds of petroleum products Establishment, purchase, take over, operation and expansion of petroleum refineries with auxiliary facilities.The refinery capacity reached to 10.0 millions tons in 1987.The refinery has two atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation units, kerosene/diesel desulphurization units, sulphur recovery unit, one unifier / reformer unit, naphtha and kero swetening units as well as utility units. The Refinery has also the single lube oil complex with a capacity of 300.000 tons/year in Turkiye. Izmir Refinery is the second largest refinery of TUPRAS and Turkiye. Crude oil and intermediate product processing capacities are given ; 36.000 m3/day Crude Units , 12.000 m3/day Vacuum Units, 2.400 m3/day FCC Unit ,1.560 m3/day Reformer (Octane Enhancement) Unit, 2.880 m3/day Desulphurizer Units, (Sulphur Removal) , 2.600 m3/day Hydrocraker Unit ,3.000 m3/day Visbreaker Unit
RESTRICTIONS: Water depth at entrance about 14 fathoms. Water depth at crude oil wharf 17m. - 18m.
Any repairs shall be carried out at the anchorage and not alongside the berths.
MAX.SIZE: 250.000 dwt.
ANCHORAGE AREAS:Anchorage is considered safe for large ships. (Information on best location of anchorage will be given by Pilot station). Crude oil and large tonnage tankers must anchor in the Outer Harbour.
PILOTAGE: is compulsory for all vessels entering Aliaga port limits.Pilot boards and departs 2 to 3 miles West of Tasli Burnu light. For anchored vessels, the pilot will board at the same location. When within 10-15 miles, approximately 3 hours prior to arrival vessels can communicate with "Aliaga Pilot Station" on VHF channels 16 or 13.
TOWAGE: and/or mooring boat compulsory arranged by pilot and and provided by the TUPRAS.
A total of 4 tugs and 3 mooring boats are available. All tugs are equipped with fire fighting equipment.
BERTHING: Tankers should ask for the berthing time and act according to instructions given by the port. Two berths for LPG , Four berths for product ,two berths for crude (Max. vessel size : 250,000 DWT)
Incoming tankers discharge at a "T" type oil jetty just south of the Tasli Burnu Light. The jetty runs parallel to the coastline and is approximately situated 39° 39' 30" N, 26° 57' 30" E. The outer arm of the jetty, 317 m. long, is designed for crude oil tankers 100.000 DWT on the outer side and for tankers os 25.000 DWT on the inner. The outer SE arm is designed for product tankers up to 22.000 DWT an the inner berth for small tankers of up to 5.000 DWT. The crude oil berth is roughly in the center of the NW arm and has 4 loading arms. The jetty is protected by 4 pivotal concrete buffers. The product berth is similarly in the center of the arm and is equipped with flexible hoses. Crude oil pumping rate about 3.000 tons/hour. Vessels with drafts up to 16.5 meters are allowed to berth at the crude oil wharf.

(a) VLCC Jetty; 4x16 in. FMC loading arms for crude oil discharging and 2x12 in. loading arms for bunker loading. Unberthing and berthing is possible only during daytime. The crude oil unloading capacity is 10.0 Million Tons/year.
(b) "T " Jetty; No.1; 4x12 in. FMC loading arms for crude discharge or black product loading.If LOA is more than 200m. berthing only during daytime.
(c ) LPG Platform; No.1 ; 1x8 in. FMC loading arm for LPG, berthing only during daytime.(There is only one platform with 2 berths). Underwater line's Length: 1.700 m. Temperature: -12 C Pressure: 11 kg/sqcm.
The LPG unloading capacity is 0.6 Million Tons/year.
(d) Height of vessel's discharge manifold above sea level at the end of discharge (with permanent ballast) should not be more than 22 m. for VLCC Jetty No.1 and should not be more than 18 m. for "T" Jetty No.1 to avoid causing damage to FMC loading arm.
(e) Fixed cranes are available at all berthing points, lifting capacities up to 1.5 tons.


GROSS STORAGE CAPACITY: crude oil 591.000 cbm, product 969.000 cbm
FIRE PRECAUTIONS: Ship's watchmen to be on duty.All operations involving open fires and sparks are prohibited.
NATURE OF SEA BOTTOM: Sand.
DENSITY: 1027 (average)
FRESH WATER: available at berths No.1 -6 (not available at LPG platform) delivered by hoses at a rate 20 cu.m./hr.
BUNKER: available at berths No.1 -6 (not available at LPG platform) delivered by hoses Gasoil, Fuel Oil (1.500 sec. Or 3.500 sec.) Notice to agent 48 hours required prior to berthing.
AIRPORT: At Izmir (Adnan Menderes) distance apprx. 70 km from the port.
WORKING HOURS: operates 24 hours a day year round,
GARBAGE REMOVAL: collected once a day by service boat of the TUPRAS Refinery Port Control.
WASTE OIL DISPOSAL: service is available to the shore ballast tank. There are 2x600 m3/day Industrial Waste Water Treatment Units , 1.950 m3/day Sewage Water Treatment Unit.
BALLAST: Max. ballast discharge rate 1.500 cu.m./hr. Vessels should arrive with sufficient ballast for safe handling of vessels under prevailing weather conditions. Vessels shall not discharge into the waters of the port any part of the content of their cargo, slop or ballast tanks or bilges, which is liable to pollute these waters.
SHORE LEAVE: Crew permitted ashore with shore passes. It is forbidden to wander on jetty and in refinery area.
WEATHER: The highest monthly wind speed of 4.5 - 6.1 m./sec is from the North, N.W. and S.W. directions. An extreme max. Wind speed of 31.2 m./sec. from S.S.E. and 25.9m./sec. from N.W. was observed.
OTHER INFORMATION: All information about "Harbour Regulations" and "International Oil Tanker and Terminal Safety Guide" given to Master after berthing. The main engines of all vessels while at the berth shall be kept ready for immediate use. Fire Fighting Equipment must be adequately manned for fire-fighting and vacating the berth in case of an emergency.
